Squirrels are small animals which are belongs to Sciuridae, a medium-sized rodents. There are many different kinds of squirrels found on the earth like tree squirrels, ground squirrels, chipmunks, marmots, flying squirrels etc. Squirrels are commonly found in Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.
Squirrels live in dreys which is one form of tree nest. They build the dreys very high in trees so that they remain out of reach from most predators. They build the nest from shredded grasses, fresh leaves, moss, and lichens. Dreys are usually around a half foot in size.
Squirrels are generally very friendly in behavior. The ground squirrels and tree squirrels are diurnal, which means they remain active in day and sleeping at night. Where as flying squirrels has nocturnal behavior, which means they remain active at night and sleep during the day. Squirrels becomes sexually mature in just one year of time. So they can reproduce at a fast rate.
Squirrels eat foods that are high in protein, carbohydrates, and fat. The food of squirrels includes nuts, seeds, conifer cones, fruits, fungi and green vegetation. When there is a shortage of general food squirrels also eat buds of trees.

- The animal health research has found that the salt can increase the heart beat of squirrels and that can cause early death to squirrels so it is recommended for squirrels to eat unsalted peanuts and other food.
